“UTTER SHAMBLES” OVER PUBLICATION OF SECRET BREXIT DOCUMENTS

The SNP’s Europe spokesperson and MP for Glenrothes and Central Fife, Peter Grant, has said that the secret government Brexit papers - which show the deeply damaging impact of Brexit on businesses across the UK – must be released as fully as possible. This follows reports suggesting that after a recent debate at Westminster the UK government is now considering a limited, redacted publication of the documents. Alongside the Brexit impact assessments of 58 business sectors across the UK, the Brexit Secretary also previously confirmed the existence of a similar paper on Scotland – which is reported to outline that Scotland would suffer the worst economic consequences of leaving the EU. Peter Grant MP commented: “The documents outlining the impact of a Tory Brexit must be published as fully as possible. The UK government cannot pick and choose what it wants to reveal about just how bad this is going to be for Scotland – and for other nations, regions and businesses across the UK. “We know fine well that if the impact assessments had shown a sliver of benefit then the UK government would have trumpeted it from the rooftops of Whitehall. However, we know that’s not the case. ‘’People have the right to know just how bad Brexit is going to be - particularly as the people of Scotland rejected by such a large margin.’’
