Peter Grant MP backs campaign to protect Erasmus funding
Glenrothes and Central Fife MP, Peter Grant, who is also the SNP’s Europe Spokesperson, has thrown his support behind the recent launch of KeepErasmusPlus, a national campaign to save a vital European exchange programme which has benefited more than 600,000 people from the UK over the last 30 years.
The support of Erasmus+ for those living in Scotland has been high, with 2017 alone seeing £18.7m awarded to Scotland’s educational, training and youth work organisations.
Since 2014, Fife has received £2,071,223 in funding, with Auchmuty High School and local primary schools Caskieberran, Denbeath and Pitteuchar East among those to benefit from the support of Erasmus+.
Peter Grant said: “Fife and Scotland’s participation in the Erasmus+ scheme post Brexit is uncertain and will depend on the outcome of exit negotiations with the EU. Young people from my constituency have benefitted from Erasmus+ for a number of years and it’s crucial that future funding is protected.”
