Local Shopping for Valentine's

In support of the #lovelocal and #Scotlandloveslocal campaigns I spent February 14th visiting a range of local shops, tasting the best of local produce and browsing a range of locally crafted gifts.

At Hutchinson’s Fresh Fish in Cadham Shopping Centre, owner Paul Hutchison took time out of his usual Monday morning cleaning duties to describe the challenges of setting up the shop in the midst of a global pandemic, building on the family’s long established home delivery service.

Visiting the Little Thistle gift and card shop in the Kingdom Centre I was impressed by the range of goods on sale, 80% of it made in Scotland including many items made in the company’s factory on Eastfield Industrial Estate.

After a revitalizing cuppa at Caffe Caffe I couldn’t say no to a doggy bag of some of the delicious bakes at Sherry Creations, the Pitteuchar based family bakery run by Sherry and her husband Terry. I also stopped off in Woodside to meet Elaine at the ‘Gilly Tree Studio’ and admired the beautiful floral arrangements staff were busily getting ready to make someone’s Valentine’s Day extra special.

Thank you so much to everyone who gave me such a warm welcome on Monday. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting with our passionate local business owners and sampling their amazing products. #ScotlandLovesLocal is a great campaign and one we should all try to get behind, and there are so many independent businesses right here in Glenrothes that we can support.
