Senior Researcher

Applications are invited for this post based at my constituency office in Glenrothes.

You will be responsible for supporting my parliamentary work, researching local and national issues, managing your own portfolio of casework and responding to policy queries from constituents. Although the post is based in Glenrothes, hybrid working can be considered and there will be regular working visits to London.

The ideal candidate will have strong working knowledge of parliamentary procedure and good political awareness. You must have excellent writing skills and the ability to connect local issues with parliamentary activity. High standards of integrity and strong communication skills are essential, and experience in handling difficult and complex casework would be an advantage. A flexible approach to work is essential as the nature of the job requires juggling competing priorities and there will be a need for occasional evening and weekend working.

This is a temporary post to cover maternity leave. The initial contract is for 6 months with the possibility of extension. The post is being advertised on a full time basis but applications will be considered from those wishing to work part time (a minimum of three days per week). The salary will be in the region of £33-35,000 per year full time equivalent dependent on experience.

This post is subject to the conditions of employment for MPs’ staff as set by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority. Any offer of employment will be subject to security clearance by the parliamentary authorities.

The closing date is 10am on Friday 21st October and interviews will be held in Glenrothes on 28th October.
